Midland School provides a unique college preparatory boarding school experience to a diverse student body. Through study and work it teaches the value of a lifetime of learning, self-reliance, simplicity, responsibility to community and the environment, and love for the outdoors.
Midland is situated on a 2,860 acre working ranch in the beautiful Santa Ynez Valley in the town of Los Olivos. Los Olivos is 2.5 hours north of Los Angeles and 5 hours south of San Francisco. The property neighbors the Los Padres National Forest, the largest national forest in the state, and we are also adjacent to the San Rafael Wilderness Area, home of the Manzana River and its tributaries. More than just a backdrop, Midland property acts as a spectacular natural classroom. Science classes camp and learn orienteering as part of the curriculum, English classes search out secluded meadows in which to write, read, and discuss literature and poetry, and the fine arts find inspiration in nature and incorporate natural materials in their creations.
The average faculty tenure of approximately 10 years reflects an atmosphere and culture that recognizes the importance of exceptional teachers and cultivates their continued presence in the classroom.
