Domestic Applicant FAQ

Q

What tests are required for application?

A

An SSAT exam taken within the past year is required for all applicants regardless of citizenship and native language. Score reports must be sent directly from SSAT; we cannot accept copies sent by schools or consultants (If you are unable to take the SSAT, we will accept the ISEE). Students who are applying for 11th grade may submit the PSAT, SAT, or ACT instead of the SSAT.

Q

What are Midland's test codes?

A

Our SSAT code is 5074; ISEE is 570276; TOEFL is 8802.

Q

Which applications does Midland accept?

A

Midland's online and paper application, the SSAT SAO, and the TABS common application.

Q

I am applying using the SSAT website or one of the common applications, do I still need to submit three teacher recommendations?

A

Yes, no matter which application method you are using, all applicants are required to submit a total of three current teacher recommendations – English, math, and school official.

Q

Does Midland offer admission interviews in my area?

A

Our Head of School and Director of Admissions do travel around the US to interview in the fall and winter. Please contact the Admission Office to see when we might be in your area. While we believe that a campus visit is always helpful, if you are unable to visit the campus, you may contact us to schedule a Skype interview. Please note, due to high demand, Skype interviews cannot be scheduled prior to the submission of your completed application including SSAT score. Please contact our office prior to February 1 to request your interview so that we can schedule it prior to February 15.

Q

Do you admit students to grades 11 or 12? Does Midland offer a post-graduate (PG) year?

A

Admission to the 11th grade varies depending on the current size of the rising 10th grade. Midland typically does not admit any applicants for 12th grade nor do we offer a PG year.

Q

Does Midland have mid-year (January/Spring) admission?

A

If space is available, we will consider a mid-year applicant. Please contact the Admission Office for more information.

Q

May I apply to repeat a grade level?

A

There are occasions where applicants may repeat a grade level, however, this must be approved by the Director of Admissions after review of the application by the admission committee. The student’s age is also taken into consideration when requesting to repeat a grade level.

Q

Is financial aid available?

A

Yes, please refer to the “How to Apply for Financial Aid” section of the website for more information about applying for financial aid at Midland School.
