Juniors meet every Tuesday from 11:20 to 12:05 to learn details of college application process; all students should take the opportunity to have at least one individual meeting with me during the spring semester.

Breaks and Vacations

Visit colleges whenever possible.  At this point, you are visiting colleges to begin determining which schools you will be applying to.  Some of you will still be determining which type of schools you want—big, small, public, private, etc.  It’s still a good idea to visit the schools near your home.  Again, you’ll always get a better sense of the school if you visit when students are there.

Deadline to register for October 24 ACT at test center near your home.

October 1

Deadline to register for November 7 SAT II Subject Tests at Dunn School (code 05455).

October 20

CalState University application due.  No essays or teacher recommendations required.

October 10

Take SAT I

October 24

Take ACT (NOTE:  This test is only offered during Midland’s fall break; if you want to take this test, you must do so near your home.)

November 20

University of California application due.  Apply on-line, must have minimum 3.0 GPA for CA residents, write two essays which combined do not exceed 1,000-word limit.

November 7

Take SAT II (Note: This is the only time you can take a Language with Listening Subject Test.  This test is recommended for all native speakers of Spanish, Korean, Chinese, French, or German.  Slightly more expensive!)

Nov 15 - Dec 15

Early Decision (binding) and Early Action applications due.

Jan 30 - Feb 15

Regular Decision applications due.
