Paul Gelles, Spanish Language Faculty at Midland, is pleased to announce the completion of his film Transnational Fiesta: Twenty Years Later, which he coproduced with Wilton Martinez. Based on Paul’s anthropological research, the film follows the Quispe-Abril family as they travel back to Peru to celebrate the annual patron saint fiesta of Cabanaconde that they first sponsored two decades earlier. Showing the changes in their lives and their different identities in both countries, the film highlights the remarkable persistence of Andean culture over time and space as well as how migrants contribute greatly to both Peru and the United States. A two-minute trailer can be found at www.transnationalfiesta.com. The film is now in its promotion phase and if you know of any venues where you think the film should be shown, or of any individuals or institutions interested in acquiring a DVD copy, please contact Paul directly by email (firstname.lastname@example.org).
