Students Program Raspberry Pi

March 09, 2015

With the help of Midland's math teacher, Phil, and current parent, Kalon Kelley, Midland students are programming a Raspberry Pi (a series of credit card-sized single-board computers developed in the UK by the Raspberry Pi Foundation with the intention of promoting the teaching of basic computer science in schools) to be our new class start/end buzzer. They will add special features such as playing a song during a passing period or the ability to remotely log into the device and change the ringing schedule for special circumstances like compressed days where classes are shortened to allow sports teams an earlier departure time for an away game.
