Sierra Trip for Outdoor Leadership

October 06, 2013

Outdoor Leadership students - Talei '15, Cameron '16, Kris '16, Ben '16, Roan '17, Derby '17, and Sadie '17 - put their skills to the test on a backpack trip in the high country of Sequoia National Park.  With faculty members Derek Harwell '88 and Ian Cummings, they backpacked six miles into an area known as the Tablelands.  They explored the Giant Sequoias, climbed an 11,000 foot peak, and encountered a black bear and her cub - laughing, learning and hiking along the way.   They also had the opportunity to discuss the implications of the government shutdown while in a National Park on the first day of the shutdown.
