Our application process emphasizes your experience; our goal is to ensure that you wind up at a school in which you feel that you belong and can be challenged to grow. We often say that Midland is a place you have to see to understand, and we are delighted to be able to offer in-person and virtual tours. Fill out the form below to start planning your visit! As part of your application process, we also ask that you take time to sit down with us for an interview, which we often include during a student’s campus visit. Please reach out to the Admissions Office if you have any questions.
Additional Information for Homeschooled Applicants:
We are always thrilled to see homeschooled applicants, as the unique, hands-on experience of homeschooling can transfer beautifully into Midland’s educational philosophy.
As you fill out your application, please complete the letter of recommendation portion as outlined and, if available, include an additional 1-2 letters of recommendation from adults (e.g., tutors, coaches) who are not your parents or guardians. If you don’t have a traditional transcript, please submit a 1-2 page course description or syllabus that outlines the coursework you have taken for the last two years. We also highly recommend that you take the SSAT or ISEE, especially if you have a non-traditional transcript.
Additional Information for International Students
International students are required to submit the TOEFL to show English language proficiency. For grade 9 applicants, a minimum score of 90 is required.
Academic Rigor & Learning Support:
Midland is a supportive but not remedial nor therapeutic learning environment. Faculty are available to students in weekly office hours, but our educational setting requires student agency to avail themselves of the resources at hand.
While we have one learning support faculty who is available to work with all students on a drop-by basis, we are unable to support students who require on-going one-on-one tutoring or instruction (either subject-specific or executive functioning). In terms of accommodations, we work hard to support as many of students’ documented learning accommodations as we are able to at our scale (eg. priority seating and limited extended time for tests). We recognize that there are limits to what we can accommodate at our scale, and are available to clarify these on an individual basis if desired.
