Welcome! We can't wait to share exciting Campus Renewal Updates with you
On Friday, May 7, 2021, in a Zoom gathering hosted by Christopher Barnes, Midland’s current Head of School, we were thrilled to announce our plans to renew Midland’s campus. After many years of collective work across Midland’s Board of Trustees, Faculty, and Staff, and with thoughtful input from current students, parents and alumni, we are pleased to formally share our plans to meet the needs for the next era of Midland.
To ensure the future of the Midland experience for generations to come, we are progressively renewing our entire campus, with current emphasis on student bathrooms and cabins, and faculty housing, and attention to maintaining Midland’s simple rustic character. To do this, we will maintain, renovate and build on our campus. We hope this website inspires you to think of all that Midland can continue to be — and become — in the years ahead. As you navigate the information below, we encourage you to get involved, ask questions, and express support in whatever way feels most authentic to you.
In 1957, Paul Squibb said, “The truly satisfying ambience is not a fully realized one, but one in the process of improvement, so that there is always the sense of life becoming better.” Those words have guided our plans and have helped us stay true to the principle of meeting the needs (not wants) of the campus community. And now, after fifteen years of planning, it’s your turn to take a look at how we’ll collectively come together to meet Midland’s needs.
Student Life: Bathrooms & Housing
Minding the gap between rustic & rundown living spaces
Failing and irreparable septic systems. Cabins built in a flood zone. We have made do, and now some of our cabins and bathrooms won’t do any longer. Based on county requirements, new bathrooms and cabins will meet code and provide for our students’ safety while preserving the simple and functional aesthetic that makes us Midland.
