Applying to Midland

Finding the right high school is a big decision, and we’re here to make the process as welcoming and straightforward as possible. Whether you’ve been exploring schools for months or have only just discovered Midland, we’re glad you’re here!

Our student-centered admissions process is designed to help you get to know Midland, ask questions, and discover whether living your education here feels like the right fit. Above all, we want you to find a school where you belong and can be challenged to grow. Explore the application steps below, and don’t hesitate to get in touch along the way. We can’t wait to meet you!

Application Checklist

Let us know you’re interested in Midland by filling out our Inquiry Form. Once we’ve heard from you, we’ll send you a Midland Field Guide, invite you to visit campus, and help you get your application materials started.

Come see Midland for yourself! Schedule a time to come visit our campus in person, or email with our team at admissions@midland-school.org to set up a personalized virtual tour from the comfort of your home.

We want to get to know you! We ask all our applicants to participate in an interview, which we offer both virtually and in person. Let us know a good time to schedule your interview by emailing our team at admissions@midland-school.org.

We can’t wait to read your application, which you can complete through the SSAT Standard Application Online (SAO). Be sure to fill out the Midland-specific Supplemental questionnaire, which you can find on Midland’s SAO application page. Just click “Show 1 School-Specific Item and More Details” to find the supplement.

Midland is currently test-optional, but feel free to share your SSAT score with us if you think it will support your application. For homeschool students, we often recommend taking the SSAT or ISEE, especially if you have a non-traditional transcript.

We ask all international applicants to submit the TOEFL to show English language proficiency. For grade 9 applicants, a minimum score of 90 is required.

MORE INFORMATION

Additional Information for Homeschooled Applicants:

We are always thrilled to see homeschooled applicants, as the unique, hands-on experience of homeschooling can transfer beautifully into Midland’s educational philosophy.

As you fill out your application, please complete the letter of recommendation portion as outlined and, if available, include an additional 1-2 letters of recommendation from adults (e.g., tutors, coaches) who are not your parents or guardians. If you don’t have a traditional transcript, please submit a 1-2 page course description or syllabus that outlines the coursework you have taken for the last two years. We also highly recommend that you take the SSAT or ISEE, especially if you have a non-traditional transcript.

Additional Information for International Students

International students are required to submit the TOEFL to show English language proficiency. For grade 9 applicants, a minimum score of 90 is required.

Academic Rigor & Learning Support:

Midland is a supportive but not remedial nor therapeutic learning environment. Faculty are available to students in weekly office hours, but our educational setting requires student agency to avail themselves of the resources at hand.

While we have one learning support faculty who is available to work with all students on a drop-by basis, we are unable to support students who require on-going one-on-one tutoring or instruction (either subject-specific or executive functioning). In terms of accommodations, we work hard to support as many of students’ documented learning accommodations as we are able to at our scale (eg. priority seating and limited extended time for tests). We recognize that there are limits to what we can accommodate at our scale, and are available to clarify these on an individual basis if desired.

If you have any questions about applications or learning support options, please reach out to us at admissions@midland-school.org!
