Our Approach to Health & Wellness
Giving your child the opportunity to attend boarding school can feel like a big step. You may be wondering what happens when they get sick, when something feels hard, or when they simply need extra care and support. At Midland, students live within a close residential community where adults know them well and see them every day. Advisors, prefects, teachers, and peers create overlapping circles of support, so that each student has people who notice how they are doing and step in to support or challenge when needed. We pair this daily care with dedicated health and wellness resources. Students receive support through an on-campus Health Center, have access to counseling when needed, and benefit from a Student Support Team that coordinates across academic, residential, and health settings. Our work also focuses on prevention, helping students build the habits, awareness, and skills that support long-term wellbeing.
OUR SUPPORT STRUCTURES AT A GLANCE
Building Lifelong Skills
Midland takes a prevention-first approach to student health, integrating health education and skill-building into the curriculum across all four years. Through weekly seminars, students build practical skills related to self-care, decision-making, relationships, and overall wellbeing. These conversations happen within a consistent cohort, creating space for reflection, discussion, and real application in daily life.
Our Health & Wellness team also shares resources and guidance through a weekly newsletter, Branch Out, reinforcing habits and skills that support student wellbeing across the community.

Most days of the week, you can find me sitting outside my office in an Adirondack chair, chatting with one student, or many, about how they're doing. We're so lucky here at Midland that our scale creates opportunity for deep, meaningful relationships, and I extend that approach into the wellbeing work we do here. Some days, that looks like treating cases of the sniffles or other physical ailments. Other days, it means coordinating support across campus, checking in with a prefect, connecting with advisors, or working with our team to understand how a student is doing across their full experience. Foundational to our approach: deep care for each student at an individual level, as well as the overall health of our community.
